Seasonal British cooking over open flame. A place to gather, eat well, and take your time about it.
Chef-owner James Whitfield opened Embers & Vine in 2019 with a simple conviction: the best ingredients need very little done to them, but they need fire.
Tucked into a converted Victorian warehouse on Rivington Street, the restaurant is built around an open hearth where whole fish, aged beef, and seasonal vegetables are cooked over British-grown oak and applewood. The wine list leans natural and biodynamic, curated by sommelier Eloise Hart to pair with smoke and char.
There is no white tablecloth formality here. Just excellent produce, a kitchen you can see and smell, and a room designed for long evenings and good company.
We take bookings up to 30 days in advance. For parties of seven or more, or for our private dining room, please contact us directly.
Walk-ins are always welcome at the bar, where the full menu is available.
Our private dining room seats 8 to 24 guests around a single reclaimed-oak table, with its own fireplace, dedicated service, and a bespoke menu tailored by James to your occasion.
Whether it's a milestone birthday, a client dinner, or an evening where you simply want the room to yourselves, the Vine Room offers complete privacy without leaving the energy of the restaurant behind.
"The côte de boeuf was the best steak I've eaten in London, and I've eaten a lot of steak in London. The whole room smells like woodsmoke and good wine. We didn't want to leave."
"We booked the Vine Room for my wife's 40th. James created a bespoke menu that was absolutely faultless. Eloise paired every course with something unexpected and perfect. Truly special."
"Casual enough to feel relaxed, serious enough to feel special. The ember-roasted beetroot was a revelation. This is the kind of neighbourhood restaurant every neighbourhood deserves."
